Washed Out - It’s Kate’s Birthday

I’m not quite sure what’s gotten into me lately, but for some reason I’ve just been on a binge of nothing but soul and funk music. In my search, I came across this gem from a rather unlikely source. Many people know Washed Out as “that guy that made chillwave popular”; however, after doing some digging and listening to his first release titled High Times, the B-Side has a couple funky fresh, albeit distorted, jams hidden in the depths. This particular track starts out with a downright tasty bass line, which is complimented with an oddly fitting siren in the background. The two give off the vibe that you’re in a 70’s cop film, and you’re the main star hunting down some evil villain peddling smack. Or something along those lines. I’m not quite sure what it was undercover cops did back then. After all, I’m just a white boy living New Hampshire. But I digress…Long story short, if you’re looking for something that just oozes nothing but swagger, look no further. Just roll down the windows of your car, crank this jam, and feel the funk radiate from every pore in your body.
