Wind Down Wednesday: Mayer Hawthorne - Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out

Golly gee whillikers am I glad that I stumbled across this little gem. This track has been on repeat for the past week, and I’m still not sick of it. Outside of Jamie Lidell, I haven’t really paid much attention to blue-eyed soul, or just about any other band that’s paying homage to Motown. After hearing this sumptuous jam it’s safe to say that I won’t be oblivious anymore to Motown revivalists. 

This particular track is just so silky smooth in so many ways, it’s near impossible to think of any other adjectives to describe it. Mr. Hawthorne’s voice sounds like some sort of honey-dripped gooey deliciousness in musical form. The slick guitar and drums only accentuate how well everything oozes together. This is the kind of break-up song that leaves you even more pissed off because the song is so good you can’t get mad at it.
