Wind Down Wednesday: Vanilla - Way We Were

I’ll be one of the first people to admit it, I tend to get caught up in some hyperbole every now and again. Saying something is the best track I’ve heard in a while, or saying it’s one of my favorites, etc. However, in this particular case, I dare say it’s going to be near impossible to over-hype this one man beat making machine that is Vanilla.

When one of my good friends sent a link to the album High Life, I was anticipating some good beats. What I got, was the second coming of J Dilla. Seriously. Not only does this album sound like it was stolen directly from Dilla’s leftover catalogue of unreleased beats, some other tracks sound like other mastermind beat-smiths. What something a little more Onra flavored? “Closer” is probably more your speed. Care for something with a bit of Prefuse 73 infused into it? Check out “Genesis (Change Things Up)”. Does your heart desire some straight up Dilla-esque funk and soul? Look no further than the 1-2 punch of “People” and “Good Times”.

It was impossible to pick one particular track to post here. In fact, I’ll probably be posting more tracks in the near future for your enjoyment. So for this go-round, I decided to hit the magical shuffle button, and this gem popped up. I’ve already spent enough time and energy telling you why this guy’s amazing, so I’ll save my breath and tell you to just listen to it already. Just push play, and let your mind be blown.
