The Avalanches - Ray of Zdarlight

I realize that there have been a lot of rumors circulating over the past few years, but as more surface, it seems more and more likely that The Avalanches are actually going to release a follow up album to their mind-blowing debut Since I Left You, which was released back in 2000(!). The most recent word came from their label boss, who says it should be out by early next year. So in order to celebrate, here’s a fantastic track that I have been playing almost repeatedly for the past 2 weeks.

I do believe it was one of my good friends who described this track as “the greatest song Michael Jackson never wrote”, and quite frankly I couldn’t think of a better description. The track starts out with some female singers wooing you to turn the music up. From there, it turns into a non-stop party, with a beat so catchy it’s impossible to sit still. But my favorite part is when it breaks down, and an expertly chosen sample sings “Sometimes, wake up in the morning with a baseline, a ray of sunshine / sometimes, know today you’re gonna have a good time, and you’re ready to go”. All there is left to do is crank up the volume, and sing along.
