Peter, Bjorn and John - May Seem Macabre

Peter, Bjorn and John’s most recent album Gimme Some was a really interesting listen. I wouldn’t exactly call it a masterpiece, but by golly it certainly had its high points. On the whole, it sounds like the Scandinavian trio was trying too hard to create those infectious jams that riddled their 2006 album Writer’s Block. These guys really sound their best when they take their foot of the gas peddle a bit, and let their songs marinate. Some of the best tracks on this album clock in at 3 or 4+ minutes (read: “Second Chance” and “I Know You Don’t Love Me” are awesome jams).

Take for example, this tasty little diddy. With some simple guitars and drums, the song relies heavily on Peter’s vocals. In this case, I would consider that a good thing. With some other simple and uncomplicated touches here and there, these guys have recaptured their magic. Welcome back gang, I’ve missed you.
